Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS)

Under RBI's LRS, a resident individual may remit up to USD 2,50,000 per financial year for permitted purposes. PAN is mandatory, and the limit is per individual (each family member has their own).

  • Annual limit: USD 2,50,000 per resident individual, per financial year (Apr–Mar).
  • Permitted purposes only; some purposes need supporting documents and Form A2.
  • We assist with documentation; education and other remittances are processed through an authorised partner bank (AD Category-I) or AD Category-II entity.

Tax Collected at Source (TCS)

TCS is not an extra charge — it is a tax credit you reclaim when you file your Income Tax Return. It applies to LRS remittances above the ₹10 lakh threshold, combined per PAN across all Authorised Dealers and Authorised Persons.

  • Above ₹10 lakh (own funds, general): 20% on the amount above the threshold.
  • Education or medical treatment from own funds: 2% above ₹10 lakh. Education via a loan from a specified institution: nil.
  • Below ₹10 lakh per PAN per year: no TCS. Use our TCS Calculator to estimate yours.

Thresholds and rates are set by the Government and may change. Not tax advice — consult your CA for specifics.

Forex Tips for Travellers

Plan your travel budget →
01
Book 2+ days before travel
Order online at today's rate and avoid last-minute airport counters that charge a premium.
02
Skip airport forex counters
Airport desks are usually the costliest place to buy. Order with doorstep delivery instead.
03
Carry cash + a forex card
Cash for small vendors; a forex card for hotels, shopping and larger payments.
04
Check the destination's cash rules
Some countries limit how much cash you can bring in or take out. Check before you fly.
05
Keep your receipts
You need them to sell back unused currency and for your income-tax records.
06
Use only RBI-authorised dealers
Unlicensed dealers put you at legal and financial risk. Always insist on a proper receipt.
